Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and the smallest of all 8.It lacks what all the other planets have; an atmosphere.Due to this , the daylight side is boiling (420 degrees C) while the night side is freezing ( below -100 degrees c).Though it is so small today, scientists suspect that Mercury was once larger and wasn't as close to the sun as now.
