To make local records accessible to a wider audience and to make it easier to look up information, we began a digitization project funded by a grant from the Albert Victor Ravenholt Fund in 2013. Included was photographing the Luck Village tax records, the Luck Town minutes, finding and photographing vital records in the 1930s-1980s Luck Enterprise Newspaper, the West Denmark church and cemetery records, the St Peter Lutheran Cemetery records and others. They can be searched using our computers at the Luck Museum.
We have a negative and slide scanner, a large flatbed and tray scanner, camera, and work with the Sterling Eureka and Laketown Historical Society's Obsolete Media Laboratory for other digitization efforts, including audio, video, paper, book, and other digitization. You can visit their website at Obsolete Media Laboratory
October 23, 2023 we added a scanning camera to the Ravenholt Research Center -- a CZUR E16 Plus. With it we can put a photo, a book, a document, scrapbook or item under the camera, press the foot pedal to get a rapid digital image. The cost, $200, was from the Ravenholt Fund Grant money that helps support the Polk County Wisconsin Genealogical Society. We tested it out and rapidly digitized 40 obituary clippings. We put the images on our Google Cloud Drive where they can be viewed and searched. View them at Obituaries
Adam photographed the Luck Village tax roils. Tax rolls are invaluable for genealogy as they are a yearly record of who owned what land and a measure of their wealth.
Adam turns digital drive copy of over 10,000 photos of the 1905-1979 Luck Village Tax rolls--part of a project for digitizing local information by the Polk County Genealogical Society and Luck Museum, funded by a grant from the Albert Victor Ravenholt Fund. The total digitizing project encompassed about 100,000 photos and scans of church, government, citizen and other information and is available at the Luck Museum -- Ravenholt Family History Research Center, a project of the Luck Museum with the Polk County Wisconsin Genealogical Society.
