Welcome to the PCTM annual conference in State College!
It’s nice to be writing this and not have the pandemic be the first thing on my mind; we’re getting somewhere! For PCTM that means our conference is in person for the second straight year. Let’s all enjoy getting back to thinking about best practices for serving our students. To that end, have you noticed the wealth of valuable sessions on this year’s program?
Raj Shah highlights our Pre-Conference on Wednesday with thoughts about how we can borrow from video-game designers to make our classes more enticing to students. (Sign me up --- besides, there’s dinner!)
Dr. Shelly Jones is our Thursday Keynote Speaker, sharing her expertise on culturally relevant teaching. (Who couldn’t benefit from that? Sign me up again!)
Howie Hua continues the great string of Keynote Speakers on Friday with ideas on how to spark curiosity in math classes. (Think how great our classrooms might be after attending all of these special sessions!)
And by the way, don’t forget the 50+ other sessions which allow us to customize our professional learning. (50+ is a count, not an age restriction.)
Math Trivia Night is back again --- will I see you there Thursday evening? (I’ve been studying up on Pennsylvania Turnpike exits to be ready for whatever Bob Lochel throws at us this year.)
So welcome back --- or just welcome if it’s your first time at PCTM. Enjoy this time to learn, reflect on your teaching, and interact with colleagues from all over Pennsylvania and beyond. I’m glad you’re here.

One of the many things I like about an on-site conference is the networking that takes place between attendees, speakers, and vendors. The excitement of being together to talk about educational practices and mathematical information is rich and deep and changes the lives of those involved overflowing with benefits to the students we teach. This conference is packed full of quality speakers and the Conference Committee has worked hard to make this experience a meaningful one for all attending.
The Ramada Hotel & Conference Center in State College is a new venue for PCTM and we have enjoyed working with the staff here the past year in preparation for the 2023 PCTM Annual Conference. We hope you enjoy yourself and find a wealth of information to take home with you!
Next year the annual conference will be held at The Desmond Malvern, One Liberty Boulevard, Malvern, PA 19355 on Wednesday through Friday, July 24-26, 2024. The Keynote Speakers are Amanda Jansen, Libo Valencia and Kevin Dykema. The Desmond is just a 15-minute drive to the famous King of Prussia Mall and Valley Forge National Park. Philadelphia is 30 minutes away with a wealth of historic sight seeing and great foods! Why not come early or stay a few extra days and enjoy the richness of the area. The Desmond is situated within a mile or less of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Route 202 and Route 30.
In 2025 the PCTM Annual Conference will be held at the Best Western Premier the Central Hotel & Conference Center, 800 East Park Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17111 on Wednesday through Friday, July 23-25, 2025. This is another new venue for PCTM and we are excited with the direction to hold the Annual Conference at four new venues with a rotation to return to each of them four years later.
This August a colleague and I will be traveling to Pittsburg to visit and tour four new venues with the purpose to choose a site in the Pittsburg area for the 2026 PCTM Annual Conference.
Great things are happening, come join us for the fun and learning!
