Pension Annual Benefit Statements (ABS) & Pension Savings Statements (PSS)
Pension Annual Benefit Statements (ABS)
Members of the Civil Service Pension Scheme are entitled to receive an Annual Statement of Benefits (ABS).
The ABS is issued by no later than 31 August and can be viewed via the scheme’s online Pension Portal. Scheme members are encouraged to register to use the portal. Click here for further information about how to become a portal user.
If scheme members are affected by the McCloud Judgment Remedy, Alpha benefits will now show as starting from the 1 April 2022. This reflects a legal requirement referred to as “rollback” and does not remove the deferred choice options (which can still be exercised at the point of retirement).
Pension Savings Statements (PSS)
A small number of members with high earnings also receive a Pensions Savings Statement (PSS) providing important information about pension savings and tax. Where a member receives a PSS it will also contain the information they need to mitigate any liability to a tax charge. Changes announced in the budget in 2023, which increased the annual allowance limit to £60,000 (savings not earnings), should further reduce the number of scheme members affected by a tax liability.
