Steve Ion remembers former PCS Merseyside ARMs activist Mike Hinstridge.
We recently received the sad news of Mike's passing.
Many of Mikes' colleagues who knew him from his activity in Merseyside ARMs spoke of him being a lovely man and shared experiences of his many humorous, and also political, comments which showed his deeply held conviction to defending members' rights.
Mike was active on picket lines and rallies on behalf of ARMs come hail, rain, or shine, proudly carrying the ARMs Banner. He was always keen to volunteer and to offer to help financially despite, like most of us, being a pensioner. His health prevented him from continuing in-person activity but he became a regular participant on the Merseyside ARMs WhatsApp group helpfully updating members on the latest developments in the press.
Mike was employed by the Inland Revenue before he retired and prior to that was in the print industry. These different experiences generated lively debates in the coffee lounge during our lunch breaks. Mike always had his own strongly held views but always backed them up with reasoned arguments.
He will be sadly missed by all of us.
Rest in Peace Mike.
