Despite Rishi Sunak crowing that he has achieved his target of halving inflation, now down to around 4% per annum, an achievement to which he and his government have contributed absolutely nothing, the fact remains that the cost of living continues to rise. Indeed, energy bills have increased by a further 5% on a typical bill in January 2024 and the government are refusing to provide the across the board help that was there last winter as though the issue has just gone away. So, it helps to know what help is out there in managing these increases.
The Liverpool City Region (LCR) Combined Authority website provides useful links to the cost of living advice and support that each local council (Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral) can offer whether it be from rising bills and rent or mortgage payments to whether your health and wellbeing are being affected. There is advice on energy saving and fuel bills, accessing free and affordable food, household bills and cheaper travel.
