Merseyside ARMs Secretary, Dave Owens provides an update on the MyCSP recognition dispute
PCS union members striking for Union Recognition at MyCSP in Liverpool and Cheadle began their 14th week of strike action on 6 October. The workers who administer Civil Service Pensions are due to be transferred to Capita from current owners Equiniti from 1 December.
Equiniti deny that PCS was ever recognised although there was an agreement in place in 2012 when the work was outsourced.
The 13th week saw some developments. On Monday a Mega picket was held at the Liverpool office that saw 60 on the picket line. It was addressed by TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak, UCU General Secretary Jo O’Grady, PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote, local MPs Kim Johnson and Ian Byrne and the Chair of the PCS Parliamentary Group, John McDonnell MP.
There were also delegations from unions UCU and UNISON in attendance.
Management have now agreed talks on recognition following an internal poll of staff carried out by the company with no external scrutiny and no input from PCS (described by pickets as a Russian-style election). However, it remains that PCS are barred from negotiations on terms of the transfer of the work to the new contractors. The dispute continues.
Picket Lines are Monday to Friday:
Liverpool
40 Tithebarn Street, City Centre, L2 2BP, 7:30am to 10am.
Cheadle
Landmark House, Station Road, Bird Hall Lane, SK8 7BS, 8am to 10am.
