Here in beautiful Otis, Oregon we’re enjoying this summery weather while it lasts. It will probably snow in July to make up for it.
Meanwhile, your Panther Creek Senior and Community Center continues to present their regular community breakfast on the first Sunday of every month, bingo every Wednesday evening and other events throughout the coming year.
Our January community Breakfast saw over 50 people enjoying the great food and camaraderie that takes place. Our next breakfast will be served on Sunday, February 1st from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Thanks to a very generous donation we are reducing the cost of the breakfast to only $5.00 until the funds from the donation run out at which time we will have to revert to our regular price of $9.00. We expect to be able to offer this low price for several months, at least. The meal will remain the same, and everyone can enjoy themselves with eggs fixed any way you want them including omelets, all the pancakes you can eat, French toast, hash brown potatoes, biscuits with sausage gravy, ham slice or sausage patty, all the hot coffee you can drink plus tea, hot chocolate and hot apple cider and, in most cases, fresh homemade desserts. Now there is no need to miss out on our breakfast and this is a great time to give it a try. Breakfast can be packaged to go if necessary. Join all the happy people savoring the goodness of excellent food and great company.
Bingo continues to be successful. Every Wednesday evening, lots of friendly people get together and have a lot of fun playing and, hopefully, winning a cash prize. Everyone enjoys our great $5.00 dinners with those salads and delectable desserts. Dinner is served from 4:00 until 5:00 (although many people are arriving a little earlier and getting fed) followed by fun and bingo. Some people come only for the dinner which we’ll be happy to package for take-out if you wish. At just $5.00 you can’t eat that well at home and certainly not at any restaurant I’m aware of. There is always something for everyone, including vegetarian dishes, plus snacks, and those delicious homemade desserts and ice cream will be available. Also, there will be a large selection of sodas plus free hot coffee and iced tea. Come and play Bingo and enjoy a great meal or just come for the food (or just Bingo). Our menu for Wednesday, January 21st will be breakfast!! You can expect a breakfast similar to our regular monthly serving plus additional items like bacon, for example, plus desserts. It will all be delectable, as usual.
We continued to receive very nice donations to our gift shop in the last month and it is now open for business during all of our events. New donations will continue to arrive, especially books and are priced to sell quickly. We will be receiving a large donation of 12-15 cartons of books that should be available at Bingo on January 21st. We will be happy to accept donations of most re-saleable merchandise, however we cannot accept clothing or large furniture/appliances due to lack of space.
Regarding donations – We are always grateful to receive them but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do NOT leave anything unattended on our porch or anywhere else on our property. We have had bags of food left and destroyed by local critters (both the two and four-legged kind) and non-food items have been stolen by porch pirates or strewed around on the ground. If you have donations please contact me at markinotis@gmail.com or marex@centurylink.net. I will make arrangements to meet you at the center or pick-up at your location if necessary. Also note that there will normally be someone working at the center on Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 until 4:00, while preparing for bingo if you wish to bring your items in person. We are an IRS approved, 501 c 3, non-profit organization and we’ll be happy to provide a receipt for your donations.
Listed below are our upcoming events in addition to Bingo and breakfast.
Every year, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we proudly present our annual Sweetheart Spaghetti dinner. This eagerly anticipated feast will be held on Saturday, February 14th, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM or when we run out of spaghetti. The cost will be only $5.00. We will offer a choice of sauce with or without meat plus garlic bread, salad and dessert.
We will hold a community meeting on Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 PM, open to the public, regarding our desire to help the community. We hope that members of the community will be able and willing to tell us what they feel the community of Otis needs and we will then determine what we’re able to do. Snacks and coffee will be available. This is your opportunity to help us help you.
We are still in the planning stage of a spring bazaar, most likely in March, before Easter. If you would like to be a vendor please contact me. There are still tables left.
In addition to our activities, the Lincoln City Senior Center offers a wide range of activities. The center is normally open Monday through Saturday plus a few hours on Sunday. If you are at least 55 years old, or plan to be, come by and check them out. Someone will be happy to show you around. They are located in the Lincoln City Community Center.
The “Gatherers” dining out group will continue to meet at various area restaurants on the second Tuesday of every month. On February 10th they will gather at the Hilltop restaurant in Lincoln City at 5:00 PM. Join your friends and neighbors and enjoy a great meal and opportunity to make some new friends.
We really appreciate all our excellent volunteers who work hard to make us successful. We still need a couple more people to help us, particularly for our Community breakfast. If you can help please speak to any of our volunteers when attending our events or send me an email at markinotis@gmail.com or marex@centurylink.net.
Don’t forget that our Community Center is available for rental to private parties. For more information please contact me at either of the email addresses above.
In the past, the best way to contact us has been through our email at pcsacc@centurylink.net. Recently this address has stopped working and it appears that it will never be working again. CenturyLink continues to be especially useless in resolving this matter. Unless notified otherwise, please contact us at either markinotis@gmail.com or marex@centurylink.net and I will respond to your emails and, if necessary, pass them along to the appropriate board member. We are currently looking into an alternative to CenturyLink and will keep you posted in the unlikely event we find a satisfactory substitute.
We want to thank all the wonderful people who attend our bingo nights, breakfasts and other events and a special thanks to those generous people who have donated merchandise and money. We could not survive without you.
If you have any questions or comments, please send me an email at either of the addresses below or speak with any of our volunteers at our events.
We’ll all be looking forward to seeing and serving you at any of our events.
Your board members - Anne, Marsha, Mark, Lori, Jeff, Mike, Michael and every one of the rest of our highly appreciated, dedicated and hard-working volunteers.
