I've used a lot of Bible software in my day, and as a result I've compiled a pretty big list of useful tools for studying the Word of God. Whether you're on a top-of-the-line workstation, a budget Chromebook, a mobile phone, or an ancient machine that still runs some kind of DOS, you'll find a tool in here that will do the trick. Xiphos is my first choice of Bible software on my Linux systems. It features a relatively clean user interface, making it easy to read and study the Bible. It also supports an ABSOLUTELY HOLY SMOKE HULKING MASSIVE library of modules thanks to The SWORD Project. Xiphos is designed to read SWORD modules, and the people who make SWORD modules really do not mess around when it comes to churning out said modules. There's so many different languages with Bible translations that you literally have to hunt around in order to find English in the list when you're first installing modules. And Bible modules aren't where it stops - there's also many books, commentaries, and dictionaries available too. One particularly useful module is a free NASB module - the NASB usually isn't freely available, but the translators allowed The SWORD Project to redistribute it for free.

If you aren't able to install Bible software or are caught in a situation where you need a Bible but don't have one, Blue Letter Bible is an awesome "plan B" solution. It is a very well-designed, nice-looking web app with multiple translations and a decent-sized library of study material (though not anywhere near the size of the libraries of the previous tools). One of it's coolest features is an advanced verse study tool that breaks down a Bible verse by the original words, showing you the original Hebrew or Greek text, individual words with definitions and parsing info, and a KJV "interlinear", all put in the same spot in a way that looks nice and is easily manageable.

Another SWORD frontend, Bishop shares the same module library as Xiphos. It's sort of like Xiphos for mobile devices. It isn't as nice-looking as the other apps in this list, and some of the features (particularly the search feature) are somewhat lacking or tricky to use, so I wouldn't recommend it for in-depth study. But as far as a Bible reader goes, it works pretty well, and because it downloads the modules and then stores them on your device, it works offline.
