An evidence-based practice is a practice in which its effectiveness is supported by rigorous research. Specifically, EBPs are skills, techniques, and strategies that have been proven to work through experimental research studies or large-scale research field studies (The Iris Center, 2014). Evidence based practices have multiple high-quality studies that have been conducted, are reviewed by a reputable organization, and are shown to have a positive effect on student outcomes. As stated by the Iris Center (2014), some benefits of implementing EBPs are an increased likelihood of being responsive to learners' needs and a greater likelihood of convincing students to try it because there is evidence that it works.
