MICROSOFT EXCEL SPREADSHEETS FOR CONVERTING SAMPLE IDs INTO A TEXT FILE READABLE BY THE ABI 3500 GENETIC ANALYZER

  1. To convert data on the first spreadsheet (P1) to the ABI 3500 format on the second spreadsheet (P2), codes on sample names are used. For example, for a hypothetical sample gf_LD500_19_AQ01 on P1 the code "gf_" is used to fill in the columns Assay, File Name Conventions and Results groups on P2. The code "LD" is used to identify a "Sample" on the Sample Type column of P2.
  2. To see all codes used by each cell on P2, click on the respective cell. These codes can be edited to adapt to the specific lab needs.
  3. Type in or paste sample IDs into spreadsheet P1.
  4. Fill in the "Plate Name" and "Owner Name" cells on P2. Edit other fields as appropriate.
  5. Export P2 as a Tab-separated Text File.
  6. Import the ".txt" file into the ABI 3500 Data Collection, load the plate for electrophoresis, and run.
  7. Click here to download the file. Use it at your own risk.
