Weather permitting, the ceremony will be outside in the wooded amphitheater, situated on a grade with a graveled path. Comfortable shoes are advised.
The reception will be in the main lodge.
Maid of Honor
Makala is Sharon's youngest sister, even though for most of her life, she has been mistaken for Sharon's daughter! Ironically, the age difference between them has made them closer. Makala has a degree in music and works for Sony.
Best Man
Mark is Jeff's long time friend from high school. While not being close friends in high school (as Mark is two years older than Jeff), they did form a close friendship after college when seemingly most of their other friends moved away. In 2006 Mark and his wife Megan subsequently moved from Tennessee to Kansas. Jeff will still travel ever so often to Kansas to visit them. Occasionally if Jeff asks nicely enough, Mark, a private pilot, will give Jeff a ride in a private air club Cessna airplane flying to small mid-western towns and large state capitals. As in real life and figuratively Mark will serve as Jeff's wingman during the wedding
Bridesmaid
Laura is the first of Sharon's middle sisters, the older of a pair of twins. The family has been known to call her the short one. Laura is an RN, so she will be the person to jump in if anyone's cake goes down the wrong way at the reception. She is studying for her doctorate in nursing.
Groomsman
Chris is Jeff's first cousin. He is 2 months older than Jeff and therefore was with him from the very beginning. Not only sharing the same grandparents they also shared the same neighborhood, living just a block away from each other. Many summer days in the 80s were spent cutting through yards to get to each other's house to play He-Man or Transformers or Atari. Many snow days were spent sledding downhill on the cul-de-sac where Chris lived. Chris' position in the wedding is a reminder that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Bridesmaid
Lana is the second of the twins, and Sharon has never seen a bad photo of her. She is the mother of three boys and thus can name even the most obscure of the characters from Cars. She works as an advocate for adults with special needs.
Groomsman
Michael is Jeff's friend from college. Together they triumphed through the ups and downs of college and dorm life, even having dueling e-mail distributions lists at a time when the internet was coming of age. Just ask him his ideas of "101 Things to Do During a Dull Sermon." Together they went on a handful of trips most notably a ski trip to Indiana (yes Indiana), and to Houston (and yes everything is better in Texas). Mike was even able to get Jeff a free place to stay during a couple of times visiting Walt Disney World when he worked there. Mike recently moved back to the Nashville area where Jeff and he rekindled their friendship.
Usher
Jeff is Sharon's brother. Among the family, he is known as "The Boy" in a house full of girls. He had two catchphrases as a kid -- "Oops!" and "It was an accident." Sometimes, he can still be heard to say them when he forgets his own strength. Now he teaches music to elementary school students and plays bass guitar for Louisville musicals.
Usher
John is Jeff's nephew whose primary responsibility is to escort his Nana (Jeff's mom) down the aisle, along with several other guests. When John is not serving as usher, he's likely playing Fortnite or playing basketball for his school's team. They say that the youth is a reminder of our future and therefore John is a reminder of the happiness to come from this union.
Ring bearer
Greyson is Sharon's oldest nephew. He is at the stage in life when he alternates between funny and cute charmer, and tantrum thrower extraordinaire. He is an expert on Mickey Mouse, Cars, and cheeseburgers.
Officiant
Mark will serve as minister for the wedding. Way back in 2002 at Summer camp Mark, the camp director, decided to pair Sharon and Jeff up to check cabins for cleanliness. Since Mark introduced us, it is appropriate that he formally marry us. Mark serves as pulpit minister and is one of the elders at Tyree Chapel Church of Christ in Franklin, KY.
