Thank you for your interest in our annual tax preparation course. I'm sure you're wondering if it's true, and yes, this is a free course. The class typically starts in mid-October and ends in late December. The class is self-paced, and you are expected to complete specific modules by a specific date. During the course, you can work one-on-one with the instructor during the scheduled live lesson training; these sessions take place once a week. The live lecture dates will be announced during the first week of class when you enroll in the course. Although the course is free, you will be obligated to work three tax seasons under Payton Tax Service or 1st Choice Taxes, an affiliated IBO Company. Please take this into consideration before your enrollment :
Tax Class FAQ
Do I have to be in attendance for live lesson sessions?
Yes, you will need to be in attendance for all live lessons. However, if you miss the class, you are still responsible for the work that needs to be completed for that week; even though the course is self-paced, you must be in attendance for one live lesson per week to ensure you'll gain the knowledge to prepare a successful tax return for your client. If you cannot make it, please contact the course instructor no later than 2 hours before the lesson starts.
Am I a W-2 employee?
No, you are a 1099 contractor, also known as an independent contractor. At the end of the year, you will be mailed a 1099.
Do I have to find my own clients?
Yes, as an Independent contractor, you are responsible for building your brand. However, Payton Tax Services offers the option for you to earn commission after 25 newly recruited clients. You are able to join the Payton Tax Service 10% Commission Program. The Commission Program allows you to earn extra cash by serving our clients. For every Payton Tax Service client you prepare, you will be paid 10% of the Prep Fee for that client.
Can I work from home?
Yes, you are not required to work in the office; however, you must come in once a week to make copies of your client's folder. The home office must have a physical copy of your client's supporting documents. Failure to comply may result in immediate termination of your contract.
Will I need a computer to attend this course?
No tablets are allowed during your tax training course; however, you are encouraged to use a computer or Chromebook to complete your work during the tax session.
