I was wondering if an alternative to the official Plex app exist officially or not. I'm quite tired of the app crashing while I try to watch a movie on the train or when I'm going somewhere where i can't use my laptop. I use plexamp for my music but id ideally like something for movies and such as well. I have read Kodi with a Plex addon is a possibilty but from earlier experience that experience is best enjoyed on a tv screen and not a phone. If any of my fellow Plex users know anything I'd love to know

Cx File Explorer is working great for me. I can download files from my share and upload files from my android to the share (Unraid). Also via VPN, cant see any difference to the local network via wifi.

I just wanted to update my thread with some thoughts for anyone else who is looking for this solution. I used NextcloudPi for about 1.5 years and I was not ever really comfortable with it. The app is very unstable, prone to breaking upon updates (I never learned the lesson of just leaving the app alone when it is working and avoid updating), and just generally required a lot of babysitting to keep working on everyone's phones. Keep in mind I am referring only to NextcloudPi and not regular Nextcloud which looked too complex for me to setup. Honestly, the main reason I went with Nextcloud to begin with was because it offered the possibility of syncing photos while outside of my LAN. But I never really tried to get that portion of it working anyway. After having to reinstall the docker a few times over the past 1.5 years I started getting a weird file permission issue that never affected me before and I couldn't fix it so I had to move on (reinstalling didn't work).

I could not get syncthing to work outside LAN so i tried 'resilio' and it works very well over WAN without opening ports on your router. It's running fine on my android Mi 9T but on my samsung i have to manually open the 'resilio' app to trigger the sync so i don't think it's resilio problem.

Hi everyone,

I installed a Plex media server (last version) on my Rock Pi 4 and the playback freezes every 5 to 10 minutes, I have to restart the movie/series for it to continue.

I tried with many distros on the Rock Pi 4, Ubuntu Server 18.04, Debian 9 Desktop and Armbian, all downloaded from the dowload page but plex is still freezing.

However when play throught the plex web page there are no issues, only with android client (android TV on my Fire Tv and on my phone).

Does anayone haver ever encounter that problem ?

Pat : any luck on getting this resolved? I have exactly the same issue trying to play plexamp on Sonos. Plays the first song (after an initial stutter) then refuses to play any more until I disconnect & then reconnect. I've been suffering with this issue for months but have been ignoring it as fortunately I have Google speakers too. Annoying though.

Now if I could just get Sonos to play nice with Plex... Even with the service installed, the system will frequently stop playing after one or two songs (just like the problem you're experiencing Praenei), regardless of whether I play from the Sonos app or plexamp. Makes it almost unusable. Uninstalling and reinstalling the service, as suggested by numerous posts on this forum, hasn't been helpful (which is why I was in the situation I posted about in the first place). I've been dealing with it since I bought the Arc. Probably won't buy other Sonos products to add to the system until it's better addressed, either by Sonos or Plex.

I contacted Sonos tech support on Friday & despite their best endeavours they couldn't find anything wrong. Playing Plex via the Alexa app on Sonos works for me but plexamp just pauses early on in the first song, starts again & then stops at the end of the first song. Please post back a solution here if you get anywhere.

I was so confused that I did not try this because before in the old setup there was no need for a direct hosts entry. I have no idea why this is now needed but it solved the problem and the binding can now reach the plex server.

Wonderful, thank you!

Just to add to this I am experiencing the exact issue described by op. I have a LG (uj6300) 4k HDR capable tv with the Nvidia Shield and using the Emby app to play a large number of my 4k hdr files (not all) results in the TV triggering HDR mode (the odd time it won't trigger at all) but not actually playing the file in HDR. I also tried the LG Emby app and the movies play perfectly as expected, HDR and all. Definitely seems like this started happening after the shield updated to android 8.0 in June I believe it was.

i have a chromecast and it works fine when i want to cast bbc iplayer itv player youtube or my chrome web browser/desktop but i cant seem to cast plex to my chromecast, when i try to all i get is "unable to cast" on the tv or on the app i get "failed to play on chromecast"

Hi there, the artifacts means the plex is forced to transcode for some reasons. You can verify this very simple way:

Start movie which is giving you these artifacts on tv. Go to the plex web interface. Click the status icon on the top right (should have little 1 on it as indication that one action is in progress). Click the Now playing secion if not active already. Now you should see the the backdrop of movie which is playing. Move the mouse over it, and you should see little i icon in the circle. Click it. Now you can see if Plex is transcoding the video and/or audio.

Now, to get rid of the artefact, we need to make plex direct play it.

For some reason playing high quality MKV content doesn't seem to work at all. Other files work without a problem. It's as if it doesn't have enough bandwidth to stream the files which is nonsense as the android TV Video app seems to stream them fine.

So I just installed rclone(magisk module) on my nvidia shiledtv(16GB model) to use with the plex media server. I'm curious will rclone connected to gdrive with plex use up the shield's internal storage write cycles or does rclone download the file to the RAM for plex to send out to clients? I believe RAM is the preferred way but if it uses internal storage, is there anyway to have it go to an external drive instead of internal storage? ff782bc1db
