PawEvidence is built with privacy as a core principle. This Privacy Policy explains what information PawEvidence does and does not collect.
Summary
PawEvidence does not collect any data about you. Your pet profiles, observations, audio snippets, photos, and reports all stay on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. There is no server, no account, no analytics, no ads, and no third-party tracking.
What PawEvidence does NOT collect
No personal information (name, email, phone number). No usage analytics. No crash reports sent to us. No advertising identifiers. No precise location data sent to any server. No contacts, calendar, or photo-library scraping. No third-party SDKs (no Facebook, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, Firebase, or similar).
What stays on your device
When you use PawEvidence, the following is stored locally on your device only: pet profiles (name, photo, breed, weight, vet clinic, allergies, medications, notes); monitoring sessions; detected events (timestamp, category, confidence); observation entries; audio snippets (only if Snippet Capture is enabled); and app preferences. This data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework in your app's private container, plus a small shared App Group used to keep the Home Screen widget in sync with the main app.
Microphone & Audio
PawEvidence uses your iPhone's microphone only while a Night Session is running. Audio is processed entirely on-device by our custom Core ML model (PetSounds.mlmodel, trained specifically for pet sounds bark, growl, whimper, panting, meow, purr, hiss, scratching, breathing) paired with Apple's SoundAnalysis framework. Both run locally on your iPhone. Audio is never uploaded to any server.
Snippet Capture is an optional feature, off by default. When enabled in a session, PawEvidence stores 6-second audio clips (1 second pre-event + 5 seconds post-event) around detected events on your device, so you can re-listen and verify what was detected. Snippets are stored in your app's private Documents/Snippets folder, automatically deleted after 7 days, and never sent anywhere.
Location (optional)
If you grant location permission, PawEvidence queries the free Open-Meteo service (open-meteo.com) to show a weather and pollen overlay on the Home dashboard. Your coordinates are sent only to Open-Meteo at the moment of the query; they are never persisted on disk, never associated with you, and never sent anywhere else. Denying or skipping location permission means the weather card is hidden everything else in the app works the same.
Notifications
PawEvidence schedules local notifications via iOS only. They do not leave your device. We do not use push notifications.
Photos
You can attach photos to pet profiles and observations via the camera or photo library. The app only sees the specific photos you choose. Photos are copied into the app's private storage. We do not scan your photo library and we do not request full access to photos.
Widgets and App Intents
The Home Screen widgets read a small summary file from the shared App Group. The Quick Log buttons add a pending observation to the same shared file, and the main app picks it up next time you open it. Nothing about these flows leaves your device.
Children's privacy
PawEvidence is intended for general audiences age 4 and up (App Store rating). We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Disclaimer
PawEvidence is not a medical device. It does not diagnose conditions and does not replace veterinary care. Always consult a veterinarian for diagnosis or treatment.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
