Welcome to Louis Pawelski's WW1 Journal

This is the first hand account of P.F.C. Louis F. Pawelski, who served in the U.S. Army in France in WW1. His WW1 journal, basically a 100 year old time capsule, was lost for decades, and was possibly never read by another person until 2015, when it was discovered by accident. Since then, it has been meticulously transcribed and brought back to life by his family. The transcription of this journal has been purposely kept as verbatim as possible, to retain the historical nature of his thoughts and speech. This includes his remarkable account of Armistice in the trenches and in No Man's Land.

Louis Pawelski, from Buffalo NY, fought as a machine gunner and runner in France in 1918 at Marne-Vesle, Verdun, the Argonne Forest , St. Mihiel, and Thiaucourt. As per his wishes, we now share his story with you, as he dedicated his journal writings to his fallen comrades who found an eternal rest in France.
