Version 1.0 | Effective Date: 09-05-2026
This Privacy Policy describes how REAL ID Ready ("Application," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Android application. It is designed to comply with the Google Play Store Developer Policy (2026), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and other applicable U.S. privacy laws.
By installing or using the Application, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Application.
REAL ID Ready is a private-sector educational technology product. It has NO affiliation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), any State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), or any other government body. All content and checklists provided are for informational and educational guidance only and do not constitute official government advice or legal counsel.
The Application allows you to scan and store identity documents — such as driver's licenses and passports — to help you organize and prepare your REAL ID application materials.
CPRA Notice: Government-Issued ID Numbers Are Sensitive Personal Information (SPI)
Under the California Privacy Rights Act, driver's license numbers, state identification card numbers, and passport numbers are classified as Sensitive Personal Information (SPI). The following disclosures apply:
▪ Processing location: All text recognition (OCR) is performed locally on your device using on-device ML technology. Your document images and any extracted data are processed entirely on-device and are never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
▪ Transmission: Zero. Your identity document data never leaves your device.
▪ Storage: Data is saved in an encrypted local database, sandboxed by the Android operating system. No other application installed on your device can access this data.
▪ Purpose limitation: We process this data solely to display it to you within the Application. We do not read, analyze, profile, or use this data for any secondary purpose including advertising or behavioral targeting.
▪ Retention: Your identity document data remains on your device for as long as you choose to keep it in the Application. You can delete it at any time (see Section 5). Uninstalling the Application removes all locally stored data from your device.
To support the Application and its free availability, we work with the following third-party service providers who collect certain technical data:
The app may collect the Advertising ID (AAID) to serve and measure in-app advertisements through Google AdMob (Google LLC, USA). Users can opt out of ad personalization through their device settings under Settings > Privacy > Ads. The app may also collect crash reports and interaction events for app stability monitoring and improvement through Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC, USA). This is non-advertising operational data, so there is no direct opt-out option; users can refer to the Google Privacy Policy for more information.
Google LLC processes advertising and analytics data on servers located in the United States. You can review Google’s privacy practices at policies.google.com. Note: As of April 10, 2025, Android ID is no longer treated as a persistent device identifier per updated Google Play policy.
We use collected information only for the purposes disclosed in this Policy:
▪ Identity document data is used solely to display your stored information within the Application. We never access, transmit, or process it outside your device.
▪ Advertising identifiers are used to serve and measure in-app advertisements through Google AdMob.
▪ Crash reports and interaction events are used to diagnose technical issues, improve Application stability, and understand general usage patterns. This data does not include any identity document information.
We do not sell or share your Sensitive Personal Information (identity document data) with any third party. We do not use any data collected through the Application for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
▪ Identity documents (SPI): We process this data only when you explicitly choose to scan a document within the Application. You may delete this data at any time.
▪ Advertising data: We process advertising identifiers with your consent. You may withdraw consent via your device’s ad privacy settings at any time.
▪ Analytics and crash data: We process this data based on our legitimate interest in maintaining a stable and functional product. This data does not include identity document information.
▪ Access & Portability: View all stored identity documents at any time from the main screen of the Application.
▪ Erasure: Delete all locally stored data at any time via Settings → “Delete All Data.” You may also delete individual documents from the main screen.
▪ Opt-Out of Targeted Advertising: Adjust ad personalization at any time via your device’s Settings → Privacy → Ads.
If you are a California resident, you have the following additional rights under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA:
▪ Right to Know: You have the right to know what categories of personal information and SPI we collect, the purposes for which it is used, and whether it is sold or shared. This Policy serves as that disclosure.
▪ Right to Delete: You have the right to request deletion of your personal information. For on-device data, use Settings → “Delete All Data.” For any data held by our third-party service providers (Google LLC), submit a request to us at the contact email below and we will facilitate it.
▪ Right to Correct: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
▪ Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information or SPI. You have no sale or sharing to opt out of regarding identity document data.
▪ Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: Your identity document data is processed only for the core purpose of displaying it to you — the most limited possible processing. No further limitation is necessary, but you may contact us to discuss any concerns.
▪ Right of Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights.
To exercise your California rights, contact us at: privacy@realid-requirements.example.com
We will respond to verifiable consumer requests within 45 days as required by law. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.
We retain different categories of data for different periods:
▪ Identity document data: Stored indefinitely on your device until you delete it or uninstall the Application. We have no server-side copy.
▪ Advertising identifiers: Retained by Google AdMob per their data retention policies. See policies.google.com for details.
▪ Crash and analytics data: Retained by Firebase Crashlytics per Google’s standard retention schedule (typically 90 days for crash reports).
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information:
▪ On-device encryption: The local database storing your identity documents is encrypted and inaccessible to other applications installed on your device.
▪ Screen capture protection: Sensitive document view screens are protected against operating system-level screen capture to reduce the risk of unauthorized screenshots.
▪ No server storage: Because your identity document data is never transmitted to or stored on our servers, there is no server-side attack surface for that data.
No method of electronic storage is completely secure. We encourage you to protect your device with a strong passcode or biometric lock and to keep your operating system up to date.
This Application is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the Application, please contact us immediately at the address below and we will promptly delete that information. Users must be at least 13 years of age to use this Application.
The Application may display links to external websites (for example, official DMV websites or federal government pages). This Policy does not apply to those external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, applicable law, or the Application’s features. When we make material changes, we will:
▪ Update the effective date at the top of this Policy.
▪ Display a prominent in-app notice at the next Application launch.
▪ Where required by law, obtain your renewed consent before continuing to process your data under the new terms.
Your continued use of the Application after any updated Policy is posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
