Paul Wiedmaier is a skilled Project Engineer with four years of experience managing large-scale civil and renewable energy construction projects valued at over $90 million. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and holds the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification. His professional focus includes coordinating multidisciplinary teams, maintaining project timelines, and ensuring that quality, safety, and compliance standards are met throughout all stages of a project.

Professional Experience

For the past three years, Paul has worked with Weiss Construction/Weiss Renewables in St. Louis, Missouri. As an Assistant Project Manager, he organizes and manages Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and design clarifications. He performs site visits to verify progress and address challenges as they arise. His role also involves assisting with the coordination of engineering, procurement, and construction activities to ensure that schedules and budgets are met. Additionally, he calculates material quantities for procurement planning to help reduce field delays. He manages subcontractor invoices, change orders, and purchase orders to confirm alignment with contract terms and project scope.

In his position as Project Engineer with the same company, Paul collaborates with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors on a $90 million civil and renewable energy project. His responsibilities include helping to develop Construction Work Plans that prioritize safety, sequencing, and resource planning. He created and maintained an Excel-based asset management and preventative maintenance tracker, worked with plant engineers to verify equipment specifications, and oversaw plant security access for employees and subcontractors to ensure compliance with site requirements.

Project Engineer, JS Vig Construction

Before joining Weiss Construction, Paul served as a Project Engineer at JS Vig Construction in Plymouth, Michigan. In this role, he worked alongside the Project Manager to plan and implement construction schedules, manage submittals and procurement, and coordinate subcontractor activities and day-to-day field operations. He prepared and reviewed subcontracts, submittals, RFIs, and Requests for Change Orders (RFCOs) to maintain accuracy and timeliness. He also conducted quantity takeoffs and assisted both the Estimator and the CEO in preparing competitive bids for civil and renewable energy projects ranging from $500,000 to $20 million.

Field Engineer Intern, Motor City Electric

Paul completed a three-month internship as a Field Engineer with Motor City Electric in Dearborn, Michigan. At the Ford Truck Plant, he reviewed operations and worked with technical and administrative teams to address production-related issues. Using CAD tools such as NX12, Autodesk, Bluebeam, and Revit, he designed and laid out cable tray systems according to equipment requirements and cable volumes. He created and modified 500 wire tags per assignment using Excel, referencing electrical diagrams for accuracy. He also interpreted manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot equipment problems and improve system performance.

Winner of the NECA Innovation Challenge Finals

In 2021, during his senior year at Wayne State University, Paul participated in the Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge (ECIC), organized by ELECTRI International in partnership with the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). This competition enables students to apply their academic knowledge to real-world electrical contracting situations by collaborating with industry professionals to design solutions, prepare bids, and develop professional skills.

That year, Wayne State University won the competition for the first time. He was one of six seniors from the Construction Management program representing a 26-member team in the finals held in Nashville. The project involved designing a new electrical system for a proposed residence hall, blending creativity with technical expertise.

His Participation in Sports

Paul played Division 1 Soccer at the University of Detroit Mercy, a private Catholic institution. Before that, he attended Detroit Catholic Central High School, where he played soccer and football from 2011 to 2015.

Paul’s Volunteer Work
