Paul Nini joined his first band in 1979 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with classmate Mike Hagen. They played cover songs at college parties and used different names for each appearance. Most are lost to time, but he does remember "The Harry Reems Band," and "The Blind Dates." As you can imagine, they were a big hit with the ladies.

Upon returning to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, Paul started Househearts with bandmate Bob Robinson (which included drummers Larry Altvater and John Weber, followed by a drum machine). He then joined Great Plains (as bass player three of four, with Ron House, Dave Green, Mark Wyatt, and Matt Wyatt), who had already released records on the New Age and Homestead labels. Househearts reconvened for a short while in Chicago, after which Paul and Steve Lindstrom launched Peck of Snide (joined by Mike Ritt and Jerry Schweigert).

Back in Columbus, he founded Log with Shirley Tobias and Keith Dimoff (joined by Kelly Knuth, Chris Nini, and Greg Bonnell), which lasted over a decade. A solo "career" also began then, and continues today. Closet Mix started in 2011 (with Dan Della Flora, Chris Nini, and Keith Novicki, joined for a time by Ed Shuttleworth), which continues to move along at a pace appropriate to a group of aging, stubborn Midwesterners who refuse to give up making music.
