I returned home to Guernsey in 1995 to teach, and since then, I’ve dedicated my career to education - teaching Religious Studies and Philosophy, with a focus on Ethics. For several years now, my philosophical inspiration has been J.S. Mill and his work On Liberty, which has deeply shaped my views on individual freedom and the importance of personal autonomy.
Through my work with the National Education Union (NEU) some might be quick to label me as a radical, but those who have worked alongside me, whether allies or opponents, will know that I am committed above all to measured debate and evidence-based decision-making. I believe disagreement is healthy, so long as it's grounded in respect and reasoning.
Over the years I’ve worked both with, and in opposition to, civil servants and deputies to stand up for what I believe is right for education in Guernsey.
Outside the classroom and committee rooms, rowing and cycling are essential to my well-being. I believe a healthy island is one where we all take responsibility for our physical and mental health, and where our policies support that shared commitment.
My wife teaches History at Ladies' College and we have two daughters.
