Welcome to the BARDO

/ˈbɑːdəʊ/

a Buddhist term referring to an intermediate, transitional, or liminal state between death & rebirth.

BARDO is the title for a collection of photographs taken between twilight & dawn.

Experiencing my environment as it passes through twilight has fascinated me since early childhood, especially those moments at the end of a day, absorbed in play at the end of the garden, I raise my head from imagination & realise that I am alone, in a changed world, the space around me has become an interior with indeterminate boundaries, with the life I am familiar with continuing, elsewhere - beyond the skyline, beyond walls & windows, in the retreating light.

These photographs attempt to capture the magical, mundane, surreal drama that begins at the edge of every night, in any street, or garden.
