Mother’s Little Pansies, Part 2

Mother’s Day, Part II

Week of April 25

Activity: We will make bookmarks and cards using the pansies/flowers/leaves we pressed two weeks ago.

Goal: Learn fun garden/craft activities and make Mother’s Day gifts

Supplies: precut paper, Modge Podge (glue for bookmarks in shed)foam brushes; class supplies pressed flowers, I will have a few for each class

How to proceed

  1. See the example in the shed with supplies. Use the Modge Podge as glue and sealer. If it is too thick, thin it out a bit with water.

  2. Have each student choose one piece of cardstock and one piece of paper.

  3. Have the student write their name on one side of the cardstock.

  4. First, make a layer of glue over the surface of the larger cardstock (side with no name) and place the smaller strip of paper on the larger strip.

  5. Then apply an even coat of Modge Podge where flowers are to be placed. Carefully lay the flower(s) and sticker(s) down on the glue and gently coat it with more glue to seal it. Make sure all areas of the flower are coated.

  6. Coat the entire surface of the bookmark to seal it. The Modge Podge will dry clear.

  7. Need to dry separately from each other. Dry on an empty shelf in the shed or in the classroom.

  8. You may wish to provide an additional coat for protection after the first coat dries. This can be done by the parent a few days after the class does the lesson.

  9. If you have extra time and flowers/leaves, you may wish to make cards to accompany the bookmarks.

CLEAN UP

Please return all supplies to the shed when done. Make sure you rinse out all brushes before returning them to the shed. Please save any leftover and usable Modge Podge for other classes—the stuff is rather expensive!
