Supplies: Succulent clippings, potting soil and small pots or container.
Steps:
1. What a succulent plant is? Where do they naturally grow? Read more about succulents below.
2. Find a succulent plant. If you do not have a succulent plant, then see if someone you know has one.
3. Clip a leaf or a new plant shoot from an existing succulent plant.
Clip enough so that the stem can go beneath the soil and support the plant.
Large cuttings need about 1 inch of stem.
If possible clip a few days before planting so that your clipping has a callous.
4. Use a pot or yogurt container, plastic or ceramic cup to plant your succulent.
5. Fill the pot with potting soil. A mixture of 1/2 soil to 1/2 sand is best.
6. Put a small hole into the center of the soil with a finger or pencil and then place the succulent transplant in the hole and surround it with soil.
7. Succulents don't usually need a lot of water, but while they are establishing roots, you'll need to water them every 2-4 days (depending on how dry the soil gets). When roots established water weekly or when dry.
8. Instruction
Light- Most succulents will crave the brightest light. Place them near a south- or east-facing window.
Water - The fastest way to kill a succulent is with too much water. Clues that a plant needs watering include shrinking or puckering leaves or normally shiny leaves that appear dull. If you suspect it’s time to water, shove a finger into soil two knuckles deep to make sure it’s dry. When you water, apply enough so it runs out drainage holes.
Winter is the best time to transplant succulent plants.
Succulent plants may store water in various structures, such as leaves or stems. They are built to store water and to adapt to dry conditions.
Examples of succulents: Aloe plants, cacti and even orchids can be considered succulents.
Succulents get their name because of the thick, fleshy, sap-filled leaves that are their trademark. These leaves allow them to hold and retain water more effectively than plants with thinner leaves.
Succulents tend to have very shallow root systems and don’t usually sit in very wet soil.
Succulents leaves can be transplanted.
Succulents are found most often in semi-deserts.
There are 186 native California succulent plants.
