Hi! Nice to see you here. I’m Patryk.
My research connects coastal and nearshore geomorphology, marine geology, remote sensing, GeoAI and integrated coastal zone management.
I study processes across the land–sea interface, from beach and dune morphodynamics, shoreline change, human impacts and coastal governance to geological controls on the nearshore seabed and storm-driven sediment transport.
My research focuses on three main areas.
Coastal morphodynamics, monitoring and GeoAI
I develop geomorphologically grounded methods for analysing multi-temporal digital elevation models and translating expert interpretation into objective, reproducible GIS workflows. Using scripting and deep-learning models, I work to automate the monitoring of coastal morphodynamics along multi-kilometre shorelines.
Coastal management, resilience and nature-based solutions
Beaches are a form of natural capital that supports recreation and local economies while providing protection from storm impacts and coastal flooding. Sustainable coastal development requires a strong scientific basis. My research examines how tourism, coastal engineering and management actions reshape vulnerable coastal systems, affecting landforms and habitats. I also evaluate emerging nature-based solutions in terms of their policy context, economic rationale, engineering design and geomorphological performance.
Storm deposits and nearshore geology
My doctoral research examined how nearshore geology and morphodynamics control coastal erosion and shoreline stability. I currently use sedimentary records to reconstruct coastal evolution. Understanding how coasts responded to past extreme storms and environmental change helps improve coastal hazard assessment and supports efforts to strengthen coastal resilience under climate change.
