Patriots Youth Football was privileged to be one of the 2 football programs in Vermont to be selected by USA Football as a pilot program for Heads Up Football in 2013. We continue to use the program with all our teams. Heads Up Football is the football version of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Heads Up, which focuses on concussion awareness. Heads Up Football uses parts of the Heads Up program materials and focuses on educating coaches and parents about football safety, teaching players blocking and tackling techniques that might help prevent concussions. It allows our program to “play smarter and safer.”
While no physical activity will ever be totally free of injury, the Patriots Youth Football program strives to make the safety of each player our NUMBER ONE priority.
Typically there are 6 Saturday morning games for the 5/6 and 7/8 teams. Usually, at least 3 of those are home games which will be played at the Fairfax Recreational Park located near the BFA school. Flag games are on weeknights, with generally 1 or 2 Saturday jamborees or mini-games.
NO! We encourage participation at all levels from grade 1 through grade 8. Regardless of when your child joins the program, we strive to provide each player with an environment that affords skill appropriate playing time and coaching attention during practices and games.
There is a $35 refundable equipment fee. Players and parents are required to sign for all the equipment being borrowed. It is the responsibility of each player to maintain and clean the clothing and equipment. At the end of the season, all issued equipment will be returned.
Practices begin mid-August in Fairfax. The first two weeks, practices are held from 5:30-7:30 pm, Monday thru Friday. The third week, the practice schedule is tailored to meet the needs of each individual team. You can expect that your child will be practicing 3-5 times a week, from 5:30-7:30 pm. The Northern Vermont Football League (NVFL) requires 10 practices prior to participation in formal games.
Yes. Football requires a lot of practice to understand the role of each position on the field, both offensively and defensively. Volunteers make our program successful. Parents are expected to volunteer in any and every way possible! Volunteering opportunities include, but are not limited to: chain gang, coaching, assistant coaching, being on the board, being a team parent, working at the concession stand, etc. Each family is EXPECTED TO VOLUNTEER 2 TIMES throughout the season, with a volunteer that is over 18 years old. There is a VOLUNTEER BUY OUT fee of $100. In addition to volunteering, parents/players are expected to support our raffle ticket fundraiser.
