ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY RESEARCH SYNTHESIS:
The following research has provided beneficial insight into the design and development of my Capstone Project. First, the article titled “Online Tutoring Effective at Making Up for COVID-19 Learning Loss”, supported my essential question by providing documented research regarding the incorporation of online tutoring across the country. The essential question is answered by CovEducation’s study performed on over two-hundred students from various school systems, and is backed up by the evidence that an online tutoring program is one of the most effective options. With the enactment of my own free product, I look to support this finding and determine the most effective way to bridge the academic gap post-pandemic.
The article titled, “Benefits of Peer Teaching,” adds valuable information to the process of finding a solution to the chosen essential question. Steven Fink’s piece about the benefits of peer tutoring has helped in crafting the perfect blueprint for a tutoring service used to bridge the educational gap caused by COVID-19. Rather than looking towards teachers to assist students after hours, viable students from Pilgrim High School can effectively tutor the students, a detail that can be put towards my project.
The third article, ““A Study of Mobile App Use for Teaching and
Research in Higher Education,” was a study proposed by Springer Link. Not only did this article support the integration of mobile applications in an academic setting, but the authors’ inclusion of outside studies reinforced the idea. When deciding the best way to assist struggling students, the article suggests that mobile-based apps have the potential to be highly effective, especially when an app can be downloaded right at a student’s ‘fingertips’. In general, two vital important aspects of tutoring programs include efficient communication, and functional collaboration, which a mobile application can accomplish.
The article titled “How On-Demand Tutoring Apps Like Uber Are Helping Students in Learning?”, contributes greatly in the process of developing my product and solving my essential question. According to the ODTaps business analysts, on-demand tutoring applications pave the way for the future of online education, or ‘E-learning’. After dissecting the article, the research provided has given me the necessary insight to develop an application to assist those struggling academically. By combining the unique features of each application, such as the immersive “Túit” experience, and the no-cost concept of “Gooroo App”, I can construct a tutoring-based application to resolve the education gap caused by COVID-19.
