AMATYC stands for the American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges.
Twice a year, the AMATYC hosts a mathematics competition in the form of a 20-quesiton multiple choice exam. It's held once in the fall and then again in late winter/early spring. About 12 Washington State Colleges participate, along with more than 140 schools around the country. Participation in the exam looks good on applications and resumes. The top five scorers at Highline will receive a gift card. Also, scholarships are given to top scorers across the country.

Exam Format
You have 1 hour to complete the 20-question exam. The exam is multiple choice, with 5 possible options for each question.
Each correct answer is worth 2 points and each incorrect answer is worth -0.5 points. This means that the lowest possible score is -10 and the highest possible score is 40 points. This means that you should not guess on a question unless you can eliminate at least 1-2 of the answers.
You do not need to register for the exam. You can just show up and take it.
