Short Description
The Continuity of Longing is a personal essay about aging, visibility, and the unsettling experience of remaining the same person inside while discovering that the world no longer sees you the same way.
Framed around a childhood memory of watching The Thorn Birds in her grandparents' living room, the essay revisits the character of Mary Carson, an older woman confronting the painful gap between how she experiences herself and how she is seen by others.
Moving between memory and reflection, the essay explores the quiet disorientation of recognizing, in adulthood, something you sensed long before you understood it.
