Shadows to Spectrum
A documentary about late-diagnosed autism
A documentary about late-diagnosed autism
🎬 The Kickstarter for Shadows to Spectrum is now live.
Shadows to Spectrum is a documentary in development exploring the experience of late-diagnosed autism, masking, misrecognition, and the long journey toward understanding yourself.
The campaign supports the documentary's development phase, helping fund research, interviews, story development, and narrative design before production begins.
This page isn't just about a campaign. It's about bringing long-overlooked experiences into focus.
Late-diagnosed autism is often invisible, misunderstood, misnamed, and misrepresented. Shadows to Spectrum seeks to change that narrative.
At its core is my own journey: living for decades without knowing I was autistic, pushing through confusion, burnout, and relentless self-doubt in a world that never reflected my reality. Though deeply personal, this story echoes across thousands of lives.
This film is for all of us who were missed, mislabeled, or misunderstood.
🎬 What This Kickstarter Is Really For
This campaign isn’t funding the full production of the film just yet.
Instead, it supports the development phase, the crucial foundation that comes before filming begins. That includes:
Story development
Deep-dive research
Interviews with other late-diagnosed adults
Writing and scripting the narrative arc
Outlining the documentary's scope and structure
This foundational work helps shape the direction, structure, and voices behind the documentary.
💡 Why This Matters
Autism doesn’t always look like what the world expects, especially in adults, and especially when it’s masked for decades.
Many of us grew up without the language to explain why things felt so hard. We were labeled with anxiety, depression, or personality traits that never quite fit. We tried harder, got quieter, blended in, until we couldn’t anymore.
Shadows to Spectrum will explore what it means to finally understand yourself after a lifetime of not knowing, and how that shift reshapes your identity, your past, and your future.
This isn’t just a film. It’s a way to:
Challenge outdated stereotypes
Expose the cost of being missed
Celebrate late-found truth and neurodivergent self-trust
Advocate for inclusion across all ages and stages of life
📣 How You Can Support
If this campaign resonates with you, you can help bring Shadows to Spectrum to life.
Supporters can choose from a variety of reward tiers, from digital thank-you bundles to more immersive experiences. Every pledge supports the creation of this project from the ground up.
As part of the documentary’s development process, I’m inviting optional perspectives from autistic adults, caregivers, and others connected to these experiences.
