ABOUT THE PROJECT
ABOUT THE PROJECT
PATINA:
According to Merriam-Webster, “a surface appearance of something grown beautiful especially with age or use” is one meaning of patina, which highlights how surfaces can develop aesthetic value over time through exposure or wear.
PATINA ENGRAVER:
Explores how activity data from fitness trackers can be physically engraved onto a wearable using dot-based patterns inspired by patina. Embeds personal data directly into the tracker, rather than relying on apps or screens, turning it into a lasting record of the user’s activity and experiences.

ABOUT US
Hi, I’m Aro, a computer science student with a strong interest in Software Development, human-centered design, and interactive technology.
The paper that we are exploring in this project explores how digital activity data can be transformed into physical and visual forms that feel more meaningful and personal to users. I am especially interested in how design choices influence behavior, motivation, and emotional connection with technology.
Through this project, I aim to better understand how research in HCI and wearable technology can move beyond functionality to create experiences that are engaging, expressive, and socially relevant.
Galina Pokitko
Hello! I'm Galina, a CS and English double major interested in software engineering, human-centered computing, and storytelling through technology.
I’m curious to explore how people emotionally connect with digital systems and how design can turn everyday technology into something more personal and meaningful.
Through this project, I’m excited to learn more about HCI research and wearable technology, especially how design can turn technology into something that tells a story about the user rather than just serving a practical purpose.
