Prof.S.M.Patil holds a Master's degree of Commerce in 'Accountancy' and in 'Costing & Taxation'. He also holds post-graduate research degree, 'M.Phil' awarded by Shivaji University. He passed the exam of Government Diploma in Co-operation and Accountancy.

He began his professional journey as a lecturer at Shri Shiv Shahu Mahavidyalay, Sarud. Later, in 1989, he established his own coaching classes in Malkapur and afterwards in Kolhapur, which quickly gained popularity. Prof.S.M.Patil's dedication and effective teaching methods gained him recognition in a remarkably short time. His gift for breaking down complex accounting concepts soon earned him a reputation as a successful tutor.

In 2019, Prof.S.M.Patil was invited to rejoin Shri Shiv Shahu Mahavidyalay as an Assistant Professor in the commerce post-graduate department. Having proven his merit as an independent educator, he returned to academia. He is instructing in this college on Saturdays and Sundays, while continuing his coaching business on weekdays. Besides lecturing at Shri Shiv Shahu Mahavidyalay, he shares his knowledge as a frequent guest speaker/lecturer on accountancy and costing at institutes across the regions of Shahuwadi, Panhala and Kolhapur.
