Technical Writing Portfolio

I am an experienced technical writer with a wide range of skills, including graphic design, instructional writing, training materials, and marketing publications. I have created user manuals for hardware and software products using Framemaker and a government-specific XML tool based on DITA schema. The user manuals covered installation topics, configuration procedures, and training materials, which were distributed electronically as pdfs.

graphics and marketing materials

These are just a few of the marketing and exhibition publications that I have recently created.

  • The Volunteer Recruitment card was based on an old war bonds poster in a museum collection.
  • The large map was created for a museum exhibit from a brief conversation with the customer.
  • The bookmark uses line drawings from postcards that were created many years ago. It was created as a take-away for museum visitors.
  • The technical illustration is from a hardware installation manual for a telecommunications system. I worked with the mechanical engineer's drawing files to generate the illustration. Note: the resolution of the .png file is poor.

Writing Samples

Three different writing samples that reflect the variety of work.

AllenHouse_info_sheet-R3.pdf

The two-page publication is a visitor take-away for a historic house.

MCHA Shift Pattern-Jan2018.pdf

The pattern is based on historical garments and details the construction.

535-0001-00 - Installation and Service Guide Release 3.4.pdf

This traditional installation manual contains links to navigate through the document. The technical illustrations were created using Adobe Illustrator.
