Viral Infection Home Care

Some patients evaluated by Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for apparent viral respiratory infections will be encouraged to recover in their homes instead of at the hospital. These patients may be suffering from influenza, COVID-19, or a combination of other potential respiratory viruses but are clinically stable and capable of self-care at home.

If you have been evaluated by EMS and released by protocol to stay home, then your vital signs are within acceptable ranges, including your heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, and oxygen level. It is important that you continue to treat your symptoms, monitor your own condition, and take steps to prevent spreading the infection to others.

If you decided to stay home after a visit by Montgomery County Fire Rescue EMS, a representative from our Mobile Integrated Health team will attempt to follow up with you via text, telephone, or a home visit.

If your health condition worsens and you feel you are in medical distress, call 911.
