Privacy Policy for Path
Last Updated: April 7, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to Path ("the App"), a beautifully designed, minimal step-tracking application developed by the Path team ("we", "us", or "our"). We believe your health data belongs to you, which is why we are fully committed to protecting your privacy and delivering a seamless user experience.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle data when you use the App.
Our Core Principle: All your data stays on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal or health data on external servers.
Data Collection and Storage
100% Local Data
Path is designed to function entirely offline. All data generated by the App is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers, databases, or cloud storage systems to collect or hold your information.
The following data is stored locally:
- Step Count Data: Daily step counts and historical step records (up to 20 days).
- Daily Step Goal: Your personalized daily step goal.
- Sensor Data: Temporary pedometer readings used strictly for real-time step calculation.
- App Preferences: Onboarding status and basic date records for streak tracking.
No Data Sharing or Monetization
Because your data never leaves your device, we categorically do not:
- Transmit your step data, device identifiers, or personal information to external servers.
- Share your data with third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.
- Use remote tracking or analytics SDKs.
- Sell or monetize your data in any way.
Device Permissions
To provide its core tracking features with a minimal UI, Path requests the following permissions. These are strictly used for functionality and never for remote data collection:
- Physical Activity (Activity Recognition): Required to access the device's built-in pedometer sensor to count your steps accurately.
- Ignore Battery Optimizations (Optional): Recommended to allow the app to continue tracking steps reliably in the background without being suspended by your device's operating system.
- Notifications (Android 13+): Required to display a persistent notification showing your current step count while the app's background service is running.
Health Connect / Google Fit Integration
Path offers optional local synchronization with Health Connect (or Google Fit on older devices) to read step count data from connected wearables and ensure accuracy across your device ecosystem.
Third-Party Libraries
Path utilizes standard development libraries to function (such as pedometer, health, and UI packages). None of the libraries implemented in Path are configured to transmit your personal or device data to external servers. They operate entirely within the sandboxed environment of your device to support the App's core mechanics and visual experience.
Data Security & Retention
Because Path does not utilize cloud infrastructure, the security of your data relies on your device's built-in operating system protections.
- Retention: Path retains up to 20 days of step history locally. Older data is automatically overwritten.
- Deletion: You have total control over your data. Because it is stored locally, simply clearing the App's data in your device settings or uninstalling the App will instantly and permanently delete all your step history, goals, and preferences.
Children's Privacy
Path does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. Because the App operates entirely offline and does not transmit data, no child's information is ever collected or stored by us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect app updates or Play Store policy changes. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
