Overview
TheoryNest ("the App", "we", "us") helps users practise UK driving theory questions, road signs, mock exams, and hazard perception practice. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the App on Android and Apple iOS.
Platform differences matter: the iOS version is free with no advertisements and no in-app purchases. The Google Play (Android) version is free to download and may show advertisements; you can optionally subscribe to Yearly Premium to remove ads and unlock premium study features. We do not require an account on either platform.

- Free with ads: The Android version may show ads via Google AdMob (banners, interstitials, app open, and optional rewarded videos).
- Optional Yearly Premium: An optional auto-renewing subscription (approximately £5.99/year via Google Play Billing) removes all ads and unlocks premium features (unlimited mock exams, instant explanations, full results review without rewarded ads).
- Third-party ad data: Google AdMob and its mediation partners may collect device/advertising identifiers, ad interaction data, and IP-derived approximate location for advertising purposes.
- Rewarded ads are optional: You choose whether to watch a rewarded ad to unlock hints, full results, or bonus mock exams.
- Consent choices: You can manage ad consent via Settings → Privacy choices and your Google Account settings.
- No developer data collection: We do not collect personal information from the App; quiz progress and preferences remain stored on your device.

Links to Other Apps and Websites
The App may contain links to our other apps (for example, UK Citizen Quiz — our Life in the UK test practice app) and to external websites (such as GOV.UK). Tapping these links takes you outside the App. We do not send your data to those destinations through these links, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites. Please review the privacy policy shown on each app's store listing or website.

Data from Third-Party Ad Partners (Android Only)
On Android, we use Google AdMob to serve ads. AdMob is a third-party ad platform that may collect certain data to provide and measure ads. This data is handled under Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
AdMob (and its mediation partners including Meta Audience Network and AppLovin) may collect and process the following data types on Android for advertising and marketing purposes:
- Device or other IDs: Android Advertising ID (AD_ID) — used for ad personalisation, frequency capping, and measurement.
- App interactions: Ad views, clicks, and impression data — used for ad reporting and performance analytics.
- Approximate location: Derived from IP address — used for location-based ad targeting.
This data is collected and shared by third parties (ad partners), not by the developer directly. You can control personalised advertising through your device settings (Google Settings → Ads) and through the App's consent dialog (via UMP — User Messaging Platform) on first launch and at any time via Settings → Privacy choices.
Android-only local ad and monetization data
On Android, the App may also store non-personal counters and preferences on your device to manage ad frequency and rewarded-ad limits, for example:
- Daily fullscreen ad counts and cooldown timestamps
- Practice session counters used for ad timing rules
- Engagement score used to apply fair ad frequency tiers
- Rewarded-ad daily quotas (hints, results unlock, etc.)
- Onboarding and first-launch-of-day flags for ad policy
These values are stored locally in SharedPreferences and are never sent to any server. They are removed when the app is uninstalled.
Ad mediation
AdMob may use mediation to request ads from additional networks configured in our AdMob account, which may include Meta Audience Network and AppLovin. Mediation is managed by Google; we do not operate separate SDK integrations for those networks beyond the mediation adapters included in the Android build.
Subscription (Android)
The optional Yearly Premium subscription is processed via Google Play Billing. This removes all advertising from the Android App, unlimited mock exams, instant explanations, and full results without rewarded ads. Google Play processes your payment and subscription management; we never receive or store your payment card details. Cancellation and refunds follow Google Play's standard policies.
When you subscribe, we store a local flag on your device (SharedPreferences) indicating that ads are removed. This flag is not personal data; it is used solely to disable ad loading in the App.

Children and Families
The App is a general-audience educational tool intended for learner drivers of all ages (typically 17+ in the UK, but users may be younger in other jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA, where applicable). Because we do not collect data directly, the potential for inadvertent collection is minimal. Parents and guardians should supervise younger users' app and device permissions as they consider appropriate.

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your data, including:
- Access: Information stored on your device is directly accessible through the App or your device settings.
- Deletion: Uninstall the App or clear its data to remove locally stored information.
- Opt-out of ad personalisation: Use your device settings (Google Settings → Ads) or the App's consent dialog (Settings → Privacy choices) to limit ad targeting.
- Data portability: Not applicable (no developer server storage).

Data Security
Data stored on your device is protected by your device's existing security (PIN, biometric, etc.). Data transmitted over the network (ad requests, subscription verification) is encrypted using standard HTTPS/TLS. We do not operate servers that store user data.

Google Play (Android)
On Android, third-party partners (primarily Google AdMob and mediation networks) may collect advertising-related data as described above. Your quiz progress, scores, and study settings remain stored locally on your device unless you choose to share them (for example via the system share sheet). We do not operate a user account or sync your study data to our servers.
Our Google Play Data safety declaration is intended to match this policy: the developer does not collect personal data directly; ad partners may collect Device or other IDs and App interactions for advertising purposes on Android.

Hazard perception clips bundled in the App are original practice recordings filmed by the developer for educational simulation (confirmed 21 August 2026). They are not official DVSA hazard clips. Video files are stored in the App bundle; we do not upload your gameplay or scores to our servers.
