PAS 1192-3 builds on the code of practice for the collaborative production of architectural, engineering and construction information, defined in BS 1192:2007 (now replaced by BS EN ISO 19650). It is the partner document to PAS 1192-2 'Specification for information management for the capital/delivery phase of construction projects using building information modelling' published in 2013.

Whilst PAS 1192-2 (now replaced by BS EN ISO 19650) focuses specifically on project delivery, PAS 1192-3 is concerned with the operational phase, specifying how an Asset Information Model (AIM) should be created and how that model should be used and maintained through the life of the asset up to final disposal.
