The Phantom of the Opera - Melbourne - July 28, 2007 (Opening Night)

FORMAT: MP3 (tracked)

CAST: Anthony Warlow (The Phantom), Ana Marina (Christine Daaé), John Bowles (Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny), Andrea Creighton (Carlotta), Derek Taylor (André), John O’May (Firmin), Jackie Rees (Madame Giry), David Rogers-Smith (Piangi), Nadia Komazec (Meg Giry)

Almaviva’s notes: This is the audience recording made on the famous opening night in Melbourne and which is different from the 2007 soundboard which keeps getting mistaken for it. (No soundboard exists so far of the opening night!)

Anthony Warlow and much of the cast were down with flu and you can clearly hear Anthony struggling vocally at times (he conserves his voice and sings “long to BE” an octave lower in MOTN). Regardless, he and the cast give a fantastic performance and the audience have a great time as well. It’s certainly one of the best audience recordings I’ve heard from the 2007-2009 run. Also includes the announcement at the beginning where Arthur Masella tells the audience that most of the company are ill but still performing.

The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber) - Third World Tour - September 3, 2019

FORMAT: MP3 (untracked)

CAST: Jonathan Roxmouth (The Phantom of the Opera), Meghan Picerno (Christine Daaé)

NOTES: One of Meghan's last shows on the World Tour before she joins the Broadway company. The person who I traded with for the audio did not know who the cast was besides Jonathan and Meghan. I have my suspicions on who the rest of the principal cast is, but I can't be sure. First time the show has been in Tel Aviv! The audience is quite into it, and you can faintly hear someone singing the words to MOTN and crying in the Final Lair. But it's not distracting. Jonathan and Meghan sound particularly stunning on here, they keep getting better which is insane because they are already so good.
