Teaching started out as a Kindergarten dream job.
As I have gotten older and have had multiple opportunities to work with kids, teaching has grown into a passion. I love helping children learn, and if you are scrolling through this website, I am sure you do too.
I started this project in the spring of 2024 to find ways that teachers could further support their students' learning and development. I began thinking about my own educational experience as a K-12 student, and one of the biggest benefits was my parents' involvement in my learning. Research has shown again and again that parent involvement is crucial for successful student learning. However, most children do not have an educational journey that includes active parent involvement. Some parents are busy working, some children only have one parent, some children are raised by foster or adoptive parents, and some children grow up with another family member who is responsible for caring for them. Other children have parents or guardians who want to be involved but do not have the time, while some parents have blatantly expressed they have no interest in being involved. Whatever the family situation may be or whatever side of the involvement spectrum an adult is on, there are still ways for adults to encourage their child's learning.
Teachers can be an excellent resource to encourage and support family involvement no matter the family situation. But how exactly? Well, I decided to research how they could support families regardless of their situation. I compiled the resulting research into this website as an easy access list of specific tools and resources that can be beneficial for students and their families.
I hope it gives you ideas and insight as it has given me throughout this research. I would appreciate it if you could please provide your feedback and input on the list of tips I have selected in order to better myself and other teachers.
