At one point in time that chant felt retired. But that was when I was a student. The school-to-prison pipeline never ended. We will change that here in Colorado and be sure of a brighter future for all.
Newly-elected Aurora city councilpeople have shown interest in this, and indeed they can accomplish a lot alone. But with a strong representative for the working class, we will create real opportunity for all, not lies of it.
Solidarity with all encampments and student protest. Never let the spirit of debate die just because the right wants a revolutionary civil war. Freedom of speech is the first amendment and it is only empowered through our organizing, assembly, under the first amendment as well; we defend it.
Together we will close loopholes in C.R.S. § 22-1-120 and C.R.S. § 23-5-144 that allow for the violation of students' free speech. We will close those loopholes and fight to reinstate or refund every student who had their education pulled out from under them as they stood for justice. They were right and the institutions were wrong. Simple as that. Restitution is owed and must be sought.
Additionally, we will find ways and means to fund educator and administrator training regarding their obligations to students under state and federal free speech laws under the first amendment. Their completion of this training and compliance with free expression mandates will effect their state funding. Funding revoked will be returned instead to communities with greater or equal need.
What is anticipated to be completed within the first term (2 years) and therefore will be most highly focused on will be highlighted with a hammer and sickle ☭.
