A Little BIT ABOUT Parrot heads
What Is A Parrot Head?
So what is a Parrot Head? Parrot Head is term that has been defined and redefined many times over. In the beginning, they were all just fans of Jimmy Buffett and the lifestyle his music represented. As the seasons changed so did the folks who categorized themselves as Parrot Heads. In the joy of the music, they also found the joy of helping others while having fun doing so. And that is where a basic tenant of all things Parrot Head was born: “Party With A Purpose”.
Parrot Heads enjoy all things tropical be it the ocean, palm trees or the obligatory margarita. With the growth of the Parrot Head mentality came the growth of a whole new music genre that celebrates it. Some call it Tropical Rock or Tropical Americana. iTunes has even made a category for it called ‘Trop Rock Island Americana’. Whatever you call it, it all has one thing in common: escapism to any tropical location.
So where did the term come from? According to Wikipedia the term "Parrot Head" was coined in 1985 at a Jimmy Buffett concert at the Timberwolf Amphitheater in Cincinnati, Ohio. Buffett has said numerous times that he attributes much of his fame to this area. At the show, Buffett commented about everyone wearing Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats and how they kept coming back to see his shows, just like Deadheads. Timothy B. Schmit, then a member of the Coral Reefer Band, coined the term "Parrot Head" to describe them. In 1989, the first Parrot Head club was founded in Atlanta, Ga.
