Tucked away in the well traveled trails of Parkside Park, just south of Pine Street shaded by a cluster of trees, sits an unused playground with weeds poking through the sand and a structure with fall heights much higher than todays safety standards. As residents and parents of the MTPG community, we envision a play structure that enhances the natural beauty around it, provides a safe space for our children to play and adds value to our homes and community.

Our vision for a new play structure is one that blends in with the beauty of the parks natural surroundings. The children who visit this park will enjoy the view from the spiral slide tower, and with a keen eye, may be able to catch a glimpse of the owls, cardinals, doves and blue jays that inhabit the trees.

The current play structure is not well suited for children's play. The equipment is redundant and the fall heights of the circular monkey bars put children at an increased rate of injury.

The Montclair Trendwood Parkside Georgetowne Neighborhoods have a diverse population with people of all ages using our trails and green spaces. However, the playground at Parkside Park is significantly underutilized due to its out-of-date nature and poor maintenance.
Another concern we hope to address with a playground upgrade is safety. Parkside Park sits off the street and visibility is hindered by many trees. As a result, our Citizen Patrol has found that this has provided an opportunity for unsavory behavior. Our hope is that a new, more frequently used, park will detract from these types of activities and increase the overall safety of our neighborhood.
A new park will create an inviting space where MTPG residents can gather, children can play safely and effectively while enjoying the natural beauty around it. Not only will this enhance the quality of life for the neighborhood youth, but will spur communal interaction, strengthen property values, and pride within the MTPG Neighborhoods.

Project Details
With support of our Neighborhood Association, the Omaha Parks Foundation and the City of Omaha Parks, Recreation and Public Property, our committee hopes to raise the funds necessary to update this equipment. The City has agreed to clear out the old structure and have signed off on the equipment. With the help of generous donations from our neighbors and fundraising efforts we will be able to add this valuable update to our community.

Andrew Ferguson is a sales rep with Fry & Associates out of Lincoln. Andrew grew up in Parkside and attended Montclair. He has fond memories of our neighborhood and is excited to join us in beautifying our park.
Omaha Parks Foundation
Omaha Parks Foundation
The Omaha Parks Foundation will accept and manage funds to help our neighborhood group improve Parkside park. Through this program, we can raise funds and make charitable donations through OPF, a 501(c)(3) organization, and designate those donations for the Parkside Project. All gifts are tax deductible.
