Cobra

1965 Shelby Cobra Kit Car

I was never a car guy growing up, but I have always considered the cobra to be the coolest car. Having a couple of degrees in electrical engineer, I was also really drawn to EV conversions. Since most kit cars don't come with an engine or drive train, it seemed like a great idea to use a cobra as platform for an EV conversion. That was always the dream.

When we finally moved into a place with a garage I started seriously considering building a kit car. I had no experience working on cars and no tools, but I really wanted to learn. I finally found a second-hand kit on Craigslist, and decided to take on the project.

The package already included a 5.8L 351 Windsor V8 motor and a 4 speed toploader, so I put the EV plan on hold and focused on learning about building cars. It took almost 3 years to finish, but it's a dream made manifest. The straight pipes make an incredible noise and it is one of the most visceral driving experiences you can imagine. It's not an EV, but it is still one of my favorite cars.
