Parking Mania is a parking simulator game for the iPhone. Players must take control of a number of different vehicles and navigate a parking lot or road side gap in order to park it as fast and neatly as possible. The faster and straighter the park, the more money you will earn.

Parking Mania is a solid attempt at a relatively new genre of games. The only problem here is that the steering and fixed camera angles make gameplay an infuriating experience. This is a problem that another parking game, iPark It!, had but was fixed shortly after its release, something that needs to happen here. So if you want to try your hand at a car parking game, you might want to try a different title.

Parking Mania 2 is a 3D driving game where instead of racing headfirst towards a finish line, your objective is somewhat more subdued. You must park very well. That's to say you'll be scored on your parking skills and how little damage is inflicted on your car. However, taking into account the design of certain levels, you'll quickly see where the challenge lies.

You will find yourself in different garage lots and on roads, each presenting its own set of challenges. By level 35 you will have encountered trailers and parking them. You can unlock an achievement for parking trailers. This can be done with natural game progression, but if you are impatient like me with achievements there is an easy method to get the achievement pretty quickly.

You will want to load up level 21. The level is easy, but for the achievement we do not need to finish the level. Simply hitch up the first trailer and drop it off at the destination shown. The long-awaited Entrance and Car Park upgrades. They need more parking barriers, better parking ticket system, better traffic flow, more concrete parking, better drop-off / pick-up / coach facilities etc. Maybe even a second gate or 2 outside the park to make Thorpe year-round (Sea-Life, Little BIG, restaurant, new brand etc).

Parking Mania is well known in the mobile world, having already existed in the iPhone and Android ecosystems and done very well, so it's only natural that it should appear on the 'third' ecosystem as well. It's a classic game scenario: part puzzle, part arcade and 100% frustration. It's also fair to say that if parking your real life car in a tight space is your idea of hell then it's probably a good idea to give Parking Mania a miss too!

Taking the traditional idea of a driving game and turning it on its head, Parking Mania sees you controlling various (up to 80, apparently) vehicles at extremely slow speeds, with the aim being to manoeuvre around obstacles and, eventually, park each vehicle in the spaces indicated. Think of reversing into a real life car park space - if you accomplish this with a sense of satisfaction and relish the challenge then you'll fall in love with Parking Mania. The converse is true too - if you hate parking then stay away, of course.

Waxing lyrical over the gameplay and level design might be seen as over the top if this was a brand new title, but Parking Mania's lateness to Windows Phone at least has the huge advantage that it's now incredibly mature. All rough edges have been knocked off, all level glitches fixed, the gameplay perfectly pitched for longevity, and so on. At every turn (see what I did there?) arrows on the road give hints as to where to go next, challenges are clearly flashed onto the screen and there's (thankfully) some leeway in how accurately you have to arrive in the destination parking space.

Although a 'parking' game won't be for everyone, note that the challenges here are wider than you might think and in terms of implementation Parking Mania is almost perfect. Repeat, perfect. Highly recommended.
