Respecting Differences
We are all different, we are all the same. Seems confusing, doesn't it? Although we are all human beings and similar in some ways, we are different in many ways. We may be of a different gender, race, ethnicity or religion. We may look different, dress different and talk different. We may need assistance in some way to navigate the world. We have different thoughts, feelings, interests and experiences. Our differences make the world a more interesting place. Accepting these differences means understanding how we are alike, how we are different and treating everyone with respect regardless of the differences.
Think about a particular classmate. Share one way you are similar to that classmate. Think about that same classmate. Share one way you are different from that classmate. Can you think of a time when you might have treated someone who was different from you in some way that, looking back, you now regret? If you encountered that situation again, how would you handle it differently?
