As part of the Sutton Gateway development, Birmingham City Council propose to turn Park Road one-way and add a bike lane connecting the town centre with the Park.
To accommodate the bike lane the council propose removing seven trees along Park Road and Garrard Gardens.
These plans need to go back to the drawing board. Better and safer cycling facilities do not need to come at the cost of the trees along Park Road.
The trees at the Garrard Gardens/Park Road juction are at risk of being cut down - we would lose the beautiful spring blossoms!
Mature Pine trees at the junction of Clifton and Park Road would be cut down so a cycle path can cut off the corner! Think again surely, BCC!
A tree at the Tudor Hill/Park Road junction - a replacement tree for one chopped down a few years ago - would be removed to make space for the bike lane

Please take two actions to help protect the trees on Park Road and Garrard Gardens.
Ask Birmingham City Council to revise the Sutton Gateway designs and retain these trees. Add your name and share the petition with friends and neighbours.
The Sutton Gateway consultation covers a much wider scheme. The proposed tree removals are shown in the detailed drawings and could easily be missed.
Please complete the consultation and use the comments boxes to object specifically to losing the trees at Park Road’s junctions with Garrard Gardens, Clifton Road and Tudor Hill. Explain why these trees matter to you and ask the council to explore designs that retain them.
You can support improvements to walking and cycling while objecting to the removal of these trees.
Signing the petition does not replace responding to the consultation—please do both.

We are making no comment on the wider plans or whether the bike lane itself is a good or bad idea... the main concern here is the unnecessary loss of seven trees, the loss of visual amenity and the damage to the physical environment
