Our Relationship with food

Most of the diets fail. Why? When you have a legal problem, you consult a lawyer; for building a house, you consult an architect; for fixing your car, you consult a mechanic; but for diet and working out, You consult first YouTube, then TV /newspaper, then you start self-dieting and working out which many times leads to health problems. Then, you consult a nutritionist and personal trainer. There is my wife’s friend who, to lose weight, only consumed fruit juice for months. He reduced a good amount of weight but ended up having fatty liver. Now, he is consulting a doctor for treatment.

We pay so much respect to doctors, which is well deserved. But why don’t we respect Nutritionists or personal trainers? A doctor helps you once you get sick, while a nutritionist or personal trainer doesn’t let you get sick.

A primary reason diets fail is that they focus on a calorie deficit without considering an emotional relationship with food, cultural food, plain bland food, or eating in a distorted manner, eating only one food group, like protein, fat, or carbs, more than others.

When we enjoy the food someday, the next day, we seek detox to punish ourselves for the fun We had the day before. It’s like torturing ourselves. Despite this, we should focus on eating balanced meals and enjoying our favourite food some days.

In childhood, my mother scolded me for watching FTv and ITV. The first thing I would do once she leaves was watch FTV. The more you suppress something, the more It comes out with a vengeance, so creating a healthy relationship with food is more important than just calorie deficit.
