My name is Paris Gappmayr (she/her) and I am a PhD candidate in the Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences program at Boston University studying visual attention and sign language perception.
I am a hearing L2 signer who grew up in Toronto, ON, and completed my undergraduate degrees at Thompson Rivers University (AA, 2017), and the University of British Columbia (BA, 2020).
My dissertation uses eye-tracking technology to identify factors that influence gaze patterns during sign language perception. I am expected to receive my PhD by December 2025 and am currently searching for post-doc positions.
My research interests include visual attention, sign perception, and prediction. I am most interested in how these topics intersect and how they can inform our understanding of attentional allocation during language processing.
Please feel free to look around my website to see what other projects I am involved in, and contact me at parisgap@bu.edu if you have any questions.
