Have you ever had your child ask for help with their math homework? Or ask you to help build their science project?
You often know how to help, but what about when it comes to practicing their string instrument?
When it comes to their student’s education, parents are able to help with core assignments but oftentimes have no idea where to begin when it comes with music. As a result, students may not get the guidance and encouragement needed when beginning a new instrument. Besides not knowing how to support their student at home, it is not uncommon for Orchestra teachers to also hear how a parent wishes they had learned a musical instrument when they were younger or wishes they had kept playing.
Parent Orchestra was designed to bridge this gap and address the misconception that you can no longer learn how to play an instrument now that you are an adult. Parent Orchestra began with around 25 members in 2018 and in 2019 grew to over 120 interested parents of orchestra students in elementary, middle, and high school.
Parents who want to help their student with their instrument at home.
...who have always wanted to learn how to play an instrument.
...who want to learn a new instrument.
...who played previously and want to get back into it.
We currently have THREE Parent Orchestra groups:
1. Beginners
2. Previous experience
3. Advanced
