TEN YEARS LATER, Octopian's parents threw their annual festival, which had only gotten bigger, louder, and longer over the years. The party across the sea became so loud that even Octopian could hear it in the depths of the Trench. Klepto dreaded the day because it was a sore reminder of the anger that she felt all those years ago. This party created the noise that would never end. It was all Octopian could hear, and since he never heard of or been to a party, the noise was always on his mind. Octopian could no longer contain his curiosity.

So, he finally asked Klepto, "What is it up there that could be causing all of this noise?"

Fortunately for Octopian, Klepto believed she was witty enough to make him fall for another one of her deceptive answers.

Reciting her story, she said, "Oooh, hush now, my darling, don't go wandering with your mind. It is nothing but the whales calling, searching for food because the dark has made them blind. The echo is what follows, for this Trench is deep and hollow. Oh, hush now my darling. Don't go worrying your mind."

Octopian, now much older and wiser, could tell that Klepto was hiding something. He realized that there were inconsistencies in her story because the noise from the party was way too hectic compared to the sound of a whale's lullaby, which he heard many times before.

Insistent on figuring out where the noise was coming from, Octopian begged Klepto to let him go. Terrified of the chance that he would find out the truth, Klepto dragged Octopian to a cell and locked him away. He knew that no one who truly loved him would cage him up, especially a place in such poor condition. Every inch of the room was covered in algae and was cold to the touch. It was difficult to breathe because there was no water circulation. To top it off were the carcasses of Klepto's prior victims floating above him. He watched as pieces fell off the bodies as they were slowly decaying. This only made Octopian sick with anger. He knew he needed an escape plan before things could get worse.

"She's on to me," he whispered to himself, "but I am on to her. She feeds me lies. Now it is time for us to say our harsh goodbyes."

Octopian sat in his cell, anxiously listening for Klepto's approach. In the meantime, he worked on making a weapon. Using the shark's tooth, he sawed off a piece of coral from the bed frame. Then, he pulled seaweed from the rug to tie the coral onto the tooth, transforming it into a deadly weapon (Octopian's third artifact).

Octopian patiently waited for Klepto's return, but it did not come quick.

It seemed like a few days had passed and Octopian began to pace back and forth, calling out into the abyss, "I have a plan, but it cannot work! For this devil, she hides away with a smirk!"

Octopian began yelling out for Klepto, hoping he could lure her into his trap. Klepto heard his cries, and feeling sorry for the boy she raised, she decided to check on him. Octopian heard her open the door at the end of the hall, so he hid. Klepto looked through the cell door but could not see the prince. She cautiously opened the door and went in thinking that he escaped through the window. Wasting no time, Octopian ambushed her from behind and sunk the axe into her, splitting her head in half. Ink flooded the room. Octopian was fueled with adrenaline and his anger was overwhelming him. Not wanting to leave without a trophy, he ripped out her beak (his fourth artifact) and left the Trench in a haste.
