John Hayden Woods, March 16, 1937 - August 15, 2024
by Jean-Yves Beziau
John Woods was a gentleman that I had the opportunity to meet and work with. I visited him at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 2010 and he took part to the 4th World Congress on the Square of Opposition in the Vatican, May 5-9, 2014, presenting the wonderful talk "How Globalization Makes Inconsistency Unrecognizable". He supported the creation of a Logic Prize in Canada and the World Logic Prizes Contest. For more details see section 5 of my paper "Cats that are not cats" dedicated to him. His interest for paraconsitent logic is explained in the paraconsistent newsletter below.
"Cats that are not cats", JYB, pp.49-71
Response to JYB by John Woods: "It must be said that JYB's papers are the most decorated papers in modern logic. In addition to that, they are frequently good enough to merit medals and awards. I pause and hereby award him Frege's Virtual Cigar for 2019." (p.72)
